Glencore is seeking to establish a new mining area to the north of its existing Glendell pit and mine an additional 135-million tonnes of coal over 21 years.
The NSW Department of Planning & Environment has finalised its whole-of-government assessment of the proposed Glendell Continued Operations Project (SSD 9349 and SSD 5850 Mod 4) and it has come to the Independent Planning Commission NSW for determination.
The Minister for Planning has requested that the Commission conduct a public hearing into the carrying out of the Project prior to determining the SSD application for it.
Commissioners Dianne Leeson (Panel Chair), Professor Snow Barlow and Adrian Pilton have been appointed to consider the merits of the Project and make a determination.
They will host the public hearing from 8.30am AEDT on Friday 18 March and Monday 21 March 2022 to hear directly from community members.
(Please note: The Commission has also tentatively set aside Friday 25 March 2022 to extend the public hearing to a third day should it be necessary.)
This public hearing will be conducted remotely by electronic means with registered speakers participating via videoconference or telephone.
